Corporate Responsibilities
At JCA our corporate responsibilities form everything we do
From planning low energy usage to environmental sound disposal, corporate responsibility is everyone’s responsibility in our organisation.
That is why we ensure that everyone is trained and accredited so we can deliver a superior service.
Full accreditation and a workforce fully educated in health and safety with a full understanding of current legislation and regulations, means you can come to JCA in confidence.
Quality Assurance
JCA is committed to delivering a first-class product in all our work. We have achieved ISO9001:2008 for our quality procedures and these are laid out within our quality manual. This document provides clear information and guidance on ensuring quality performance and customer satisfaction at all stages of the work we are involved in. Similar to our approach to health and safety, we believe quality is not just defined by a set of documents, standards and processes but is a matter of culture throughout the whole of JCA.
Quality through Communication
We believe that communication and cooperation is not just a requirement of the construction (design and management) regulations but a key practice for ensuring that a contract is executed to the high standards expected by our clients. Through the workshop process, we believe all involved parties interests, concerns and requests for information can be discussed openly and tracked through meeting minutes.
Similar to our open door policy on health and safety, site operatives are expected to make their supervisor or the management team aware of any concerns they may have or barriers to quality delivery.
Another element of our commitment to quality delivery will be our quality plan, which will be prepared for the contract. This will be based on JCA’s existing ISO9001 accredited quality management system and will ensure that required resource and procedures are available to the team to carry out the contract to the required standard. Procedures and documentation which will form this quality plan includes but is not limited to:
- Contract specific organisation
- Equipment inspection and calibration
- Control and assessment of subcontractors
- Audits by JCA’s health and safety manager
- Schedule of JCA risk assessments and method statements
- Schedule of specialist service provider risk assessments and method statements
- Permit to work system
Operation and Maintenance Manual Maintenance Strategy
As part of initial mobilisation JCA will ensure the availability of operations and maintenance manuals for all the equipment we are responsible for and any associated health and safety file previously prepared under construction (design and management) regulations. As planned preventative maintenance tasks are carried out as the programme moves from mobilisation to “business as usual”, the site team will ensure that these manuals are up to date and request/add extra information as necessary. This ensures our manuals are relevant to the equipment, the working strategy for the building and condition of the equipment.
Where JCA are required to carry out project work as part of the contract or as a variation to the contract, the appropriate operations and maintenance manuals are provided for the site as part of JCA’s normal project processes.
Comprehensive Document Management
We recognise the fundamental value of robust document management and we maintain a professional document management system and a rigorously applied document numbering format. This enables all members of our team to identify easily and unambiguously what a document is and which revision/version is the most recent. It also encourages good quality management procedures for documentation, eradicating the risk of previous versions being overwritten. This methodology can be (and is) applied to quotations, technical submittals, RFIs, health and safety documents and all other contract specific information.
Competent Specialist Subcontractors
JCA maintain their own database of competent subcontractors who have all had to go through an audit process which checks their health & safety, quality and environmental arrangements, as well as how they deal with CDM specific requirements (e.g. design input or communication, coordination and cooperation). This is backed up with an interview process held by a director or senior manager within JCA so that the company’s approach can be understood and the JCA methodology also explained to the contractor in question.
Once a contractor is approved on to JCA’s database, their performance is continually assessed by our contract managers and health and safety manager as part of his site audits. Subcontractors are expected to maintain the standard of the information they provide to JCA and any changes, deficiencies or expired information is followed up with the company in question. Through this process JCA believes that the standard of specialist subcontract work is maintained at the same level as expected of their own employees.
Environmental
JCA has achieved ISO 14001:2004 certification for our environmental management system, which has been developed with the guidance and auditing of QMS. We are committed to improving our environmental performance in a number of key areas while retaining a focus on providing the quality service expected of us by our existing clients.
On all contracts we are committed to ensuring that waste is disposed of appropriately (and by authorised parties), substances with the potential to damage the environment are stored correctly and waste going to landfill is reduced.
Waste Disposal
Where we are responsible for disposal of waste resulting from our duties on site, JCA shall ensure that waste disposal is carried out by an appropriately licensed contractor with the correct waste transfer paperwork completed for each movement.
Where specialist disposal is required (e.g. excess refrigerants or existing refrigerants requiring decanting as part of the contract) these items shall be collected by (or returned to) an authorised company (such as Dean and Woods in the previous example).
Waste Segregation
JCA recognises that certain types of waste must be disposed of separately (e.g. fluorescent tubes). Where this is necessary, JCA carries out waste segregation at site level and engages specialist service providers to ensure that the segregated waste is disposed of in the correct manner.
Environmental Protection
JCA realises that it is not always possible to use an environmentally friendly substance onsite. Where a substitute cannot be found, great care is taken to ensure that the substance is not inadvertently released to contaminate the local environment, drains or other watercourses. Controls are assessed for each situation and would typically include the use of portable bunds (for hazardous liquids), bottle cages (normally to secure gases such as refrigerants) and we always ensure that operatives working with the substances are appropriately trained (e.g. City & Guilds refrigerant handling).
Accreditation
Our approach
The JCA approach to tendering for any project is recognised in the industry as being the most comprehensive and detailed. We aim to show that we have fully understood the brief itself and to demonstrate how we will approach the project in its entirety, mapping out in detail: feasibility and delivery methodology; testing and commissioning; our operating and management team and of course full itemised pricing.
JCA has achieved the following accreditations and is a member of the following organisations:
- BS EN ISO 9001:2008
- Safe Contractor Accreditation
- Electrical Contracting Association (ECA)
- Building Services Research Information & Association (BSRIA)
- Heating, Ventilation, Contractors Association (HVCA)
- Kitemark Electrical Contractor
- REFCOM
- BS EN ISO 14001
- British Safety Council
We will shortly be awarded:
- BS OHSAS 18001 (Health and Safety Management)
